Social Butterfly

We've been busy these last few days.  I am changing grade levels and moving to a new building, so I spent the last two mornings packing up my classroom.  Miss Sarah joined me, and felt the need to socialize.  She walked into my friend Patty's room, found her rocking chair and a book, and "persuaded" a friend to read to her.  Readers are Leaders, I always say:)
Yesterday, the humidifiers were removed after having them blowing 24/7 for two weeks.  In her inquisitive nature, she stepped in front of the noise and learned they blew her piggies upward.

Sarah mimics everything she sees.  When we got ready to get in the car the first time, she saw how I carried my purse, found Addy's, and it is now a staple everytime we leave.  She even carries it on her arm like I do:)  Such the Diva!
No Fear!
She runs with reckless abandonment into every adventure.  Acts first, and thinks later.  When there is an audience,  Sarah puts on a show for all who will look.  While playing outside with our neighbors she watched the Big Kids ride on their scooters and needed to try it herself. And did not want any assistance, whatsoever. (I see many trips to Urgent Care in my future:)

She's living life to the fullest, and we are blessed to have front row seats on this wild ride!

Must Reads

During the summer months, I began to research and find books at the library on Down syndrome and adoption.  While they were informational, I was seeking more on the family piece, not medical jargon.  I found a couple of books that I believe every parent with a special needs child should read.  The books are  beautiful, emotional, and give you a glimpse of the love and joy the families receive.  I've found myself  laughing, crying, and overwhelmed all in a short time span.

Gifts and Gifts 2, are written by families and mothers, sharing how people with Down syndrome enrich their lives.  A couple of my special friends have their story in Gifts 2.

Chicken Soup for the Soul, Children with Special Needs:  another tear-jerker, but embraces multiple special needs in this collection of essays from families.

Summer At Last...?

Addyson's friend came over to spend the day, with plans to go to the library and the pool.  However, the weather didn't cooperate...pouring rain until 2pm.  We headed to the library in the afternoon for some great summer reads.  Addyson and Avery looked all the over the library to find the Puppy Place section.  (They are all the rage in first grade.) It's a series about puppies that move into foster homes for training.  Addy's been reading quite a few, and loses all sense of time when she reads them.  I love it!  Anyway, Austin was the one who finally found the section.  Both girls spent a long time, deciding which book to get and Austin even came home with a few to read together.

Whenever he goes to the library, he is always thinking of books to get for Addy.  He knows she likes the Rainbow Fairies and Puppy Place, along with some picture book characters.  I love that about him!  He is constantly thinking about the other person.  Whether it's bringing books and pictures for his Tutor Time friends or finding books for Addy, he is thinking about others.  He hasn't recognized that he's making a difference but he is!

After the library, I decided to take the "Three Musketeers" to McDonalds for ice cream cones and to play on the playland.  When we got our treats, looked at the door, and it said, "CLOSED!"  What a bummer!

I took a few pictures of our adventure!  Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow!
